The hydroxyl free radical is formed if hydrogen peroxide is not completely converted to water.
Extremely reactive, it will take a hydrogen atom wherever it can get its hands on. The problem is we can’t afford to give up hydrogen atoms so easily.
Can damage a range of molecules such as:
- Nucleic Acids – such as DNA, causing genetic mutations
- Lipids – causing lipid peroxidation, like hydrogen peroxide
Vitamin E helps to protect you against this free radical.
